This collection contains the papers of former Governor of Tennessee, Secretary of Education, and U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander. Currently, only the material predating Alexander's tenure as Senator (pre-2002) is available for research use. Please contact Special Collections with access inquiries related to Senate materials.

As president of National Life and Accident Insurance Company, the parent company of WSM, Inc. and the Grand Ole Opry, Wills had access to a wide variety of material associated with country music in general and the Grand Ole Opry in particular.

This collection contains the papers of Dewey Grantham, longtime professor of history at Vanderbilt from 1952-1991. Grantham was a preeminent scholar of the twentieth century South. This collection is mostly processed with a small (7 linear feet) unprocessed addition.

This collection contains copies of letters written by Alfred T. Hamilton to his father, 1858 and 1859. He was a doctor in Franklin County, Tennessee, and his letters discuss the medical conditions of this patients as well as living conditions in the South. Copies of 2 letters from James B. Childs to Mrs. Noble in 1961 regarding the location of the town.

Scope and Contents This .42 linear feet collection is divided into three series: Series I includes original, handwritten general correspondence sent to William Giles Harding primarily from Matthew Fontaine Maury, 1827-1872. Abstract The Stanley F. Horn Collection of Tennessee Manuscripts contains more than six hundred individual pieces. Although they range in date from 1782 to the 1870s, most are concentrated in the first four decades of the nineteenth century. Horn Pamphlet Collection (1782-1978) includes material ranging over a wide variety of subjects, from an early (1870) printed poem of Bret Harte to rules for dueling to an 18th century pamphlet by Thomas Paine. The most extensive part of the collection pertains to the Civil War and Tennessee history. There are many 19th century pamphlets dealing with the election and presidency of Andrew Jackson.
