This collection contains copies of correspondence between Kemp Tolley and James Stahlman. It also contains an essay, and 2 copies of newsletters edited by Kemp Tolley. The letters discuss a wide range of topics: World War II, Cuba, China, Russia, Roberts Commission, Kennedy Assassination, and the Warren Commission.

Biographical / Historical
Kemp Tolley (1908-2000), son of Beulah P. and Oscar Kemp Tolley, was born on 29 April 1908 in Manila in the Philippines. He was a 1929 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and authored several books on the history of the U.S. Navy. Tolley was legendary for his naval exploits in China, Indonesia, and Australia and actively served in WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. In 1992 he was made a permanent member of the Defense Attache System Hall of Fame by the Defense Intelligence Agency. Tolley died in Corbett, Maryland on 28 October 2000.
James Geddes Stahlman (1893-1976), son of Mary Geddes and Edward Claiborne Stahlman, was born on 28 February 1893 in Nashville, Tennessee. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt in 1916 and began his career in journalism by working as a reporter for the Nashville Banner in 1912. He became the publisher of the Banner in 1930 and remained in that role until 1972. Stahlman died in Nashville, Tennessee on 1 May 1976.
