Scope and Contents
This collection contains approximately 200 photographs taken from 1939-1942 at Vanderbilt University. Subjects include badminton, band, cheerleaders, elections/voting, fraternities, unidentified groups, Lady of the Bracelet, Miss Vanderbilt, portraits, registration, sororities, and swimming.

The physical materials from this collection may be viewed only in the reading room of Vanderbilt’s Special Collections and University Archives. Biographical / Historical
Van Tankersley Irwin, Jr., was born in Nashville, Tennessee on July 25, 1919. Irwin received his BA in 1941 and MA in 1942 from Vanderbilt University, where he was a student photographer. He served in the US Navy during World War II and later owned WNAH Radio, 1360 AM. He died on June 10, 2015, in Nashville.
