Here, Pontius Pilate is depicted in royal regalia propping up a beaten and wounded Christ. As common in this scene, the Roman Perfect Pilate drapes Jesus with a royal coat and his crown of thorns in mockery of a royal presentation, mocking his position as the King of the Jews.
