The George Mayfield Papers, 1900-1966, contain correspondence, music, theatre, language, and science programs, newspaper clippings, a calendar, and personal writings of German professor George Mayfield, 1877-1964.

Scope and Content Note The Papers of George Noel Mayhew date from approximately 1853 to 1965 and document his education and career as a religious scholar and businessman. The bulk of the collection dates from the 1930’s to the 1960’s. Extensive correspondence document Mayhew’s career and his participation in the Disciples of Christ Church and his writings and business records provide insight into his many fields of interest. Abstract

This collection contains the papers of John Thomas McGill (1851-1946), longtime faculty member and Dean of the School of Pharmacy at Vanderbilt. He also served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Tennessee Academy of Science for 15 years.

Scope and Content The Frederick Wightman Moore Papers consist primarily of correspondence, research and lecture notes, and various writings from his career as Professor and Dean at Vanderbilt University. The collection contains 0.834 linear feet of materials. This collection includes correspondence, diaries, journals where articles were published, etc. Series I contains incoming correspondence that is arranged alphabetically, then by date in the folders. A few pieces of correspondence are written in French and Spanish. Series II contains publications.

Abstract

This collection contains four typed and signed letters from John Crowe Ransom to Ann Mitchner, a friend and novice writer. The collection was purchased in early 2006. The four letters are dated January 17, February 2, March 15, and March 26, 1950, and include handwritten corrections and some tape repairs. This small correspondence collection records Ransom’s editorial and critical advice over the period of three months to aspiring writer Ann Mitchner.

Abstract

The letters in this small collection were written between September 17, 1959 and June 30, 1966 from John Crowe Ransom to Joseph Edgar Simmons, an aspiring poet and teacher. The letters consist primarily of advice, information, and concern Ransom gives for Simmons’ personal and professional growth as a poet, writer, and teacher. Altogether there are 17 letters. These letters were purchased in the fall of 2001.

This small collection (.21 linear feet) includes correspondence from John Crowe Ransom to Robert Graves during the years 1922 to 1926. Also included are poems, newspaper clippings, reviews of books about Ransom, and materials concerning Ransom’s 80th birthday celebration at Kenyon College.

This collection contains a single 6 page manuscript titled "Forty-Eight Hours at Vanderbilt" written by Charles Roos in 1985. The essay documents Roos's involvement in the 1960 James Lawson case at Vanderbilt. The '48 hours' document June 7-8, 1960.
