Abstract

The Ben Lucien Burman Papers consist of xeroxed material relating to three of his books: Blow a Wild Bugle for Catfish Bend, Look Down That Winding River, and The Sign of the Praying Tiger. Included are carbon typescripts, holograph copies, worksheets, first drafts, galley proofs and an incomplete synopsis.

This small collection consists of one uncorrected proof copy of In My Father’s House by Ernest J. Gaines and a holograph manuscript fragment of 32 pages front and back of the same title.

Abstract

This .21 linear foot collection consists of three file folders. It includes one folder of outgoing correspondence from 1942, 1972, and 1973. In addition, the collection contains two of Gordon’s manuscripts: “Old Mrs. Llewellyn” and “The Olive Garden,” both of which are not dated.

The George W. Harris papers contains correspondence, a bound volume of stories, including letters to editor and Sut Lovingood Yarns. Scope and Contents Note In 1985, Special Collections at the Jean and Alexander Heard Library acquired a collection of working papers from Noel Polk on his bibliography of Andrew Nelson Lytle. The Noel Polk/Andrew Lytle Collection was a generous donation made by Mr. Polk himself. Scope and Contents The Southern Graphic Novel Collection, 1995-2019, is a growing rare book and manuscript strategy for Vanderbilt Special Collections that expands upon our rich collections in Southern literature and poetry. Abstract The papers of Peter Taylor (1917-1994) were collected by bibliographer Stuart Wright and purchased by Vanderbilt University in 1988. A native of Tennessee and a former Vanderbilt student, Taylor is acknowledged as a master of the short story form and won several major literary awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his 1986 novel A Summons To Memphis.
