Abstract

This small collection is comprised of objects and photographs assembled by James R. Hawk and Robert Anthony Teal from their participation in the March on Washington on April 25, 1993. On that day hundreds of thousands of gay and lesbian Americans and their supporters rallied in the capital to celebrate the right to be homosexual and to demand freedom from discrimination.

Scope and Contents The Larry Romans Papers consists of documents and artifacts collected by Larry Romans, a Vanderbilt librarian and LGBTQ rights activist in Nashville, primarily from the late 1980s to the early 2000s. The Larry Romans papers were originally divided between Vanderbilt Special Collections and University Archives and the Special Collections Division of the Nashville Public Library but have now been fully obtained by Vanderbilt University.
