Historical or Biographical Note
C. Frank Consolazio (1913-1976) was a biochemist, nutritionist, investigator, and author. His research involvement ranged very broadly including: environmental nutrition, nutritional requirements, performance evaluation, energy metabolism, evaluation of nutritional status, nutritional surveys, mineral metabolism, and body composition. He was involved with the wide-ranging studies of the U.S. Army's Nutrition Laboratory and the ICNND.
C. Frank Consolazio was the chief lab technician in the Fatigue Laboratory at Harvard University from 1929-1942, and later he was an Assistant in Physiology at Harvard from 1943-1947. He served as the chief biochemist of the Biochemistry Branch of the Medical Nutrition Lab from 1947-1951. Later he worked in the Bioenergetics Division of the Medical Research and Nutrition Lab from 1952-1975. He also served as a Special Consultant for the Interdepartmental Committee on Nutrition for National Defense, ICNND (1956-1976), and for the World Health Organization, WHO (1962). He was an affiliated professor at Colorado State University from 1964-1965. He was a member of the Subcommittee on Calories, Fat, Carbohydrates and Alcohol, NAS, NRC from 1965-1966. He also served as a member on the Committee on Population Biology of Altitude for the International Biology Program with the WHO in 1967. He was a Senior Lecturer in Physical Education at the University of Colorado from 1970-1976. He also worked as a consultant to the State Department Agency for International Development from 1971-1976 and as a consultant to the National Institute Child Health and Development in 1971. He served as a monitor for the Nutrition Research Information Systems and International Biology Program for the Section on Energy Requirements in 1971. He also worked as chief of the Bioenergetics Division of the U.S. Army at the Letterman Army Institute of Research, 1975-1976.
