Three Scenes from the Life of Mary, This image shows three scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary: in the left panel, presentation of the Virgin in the temple; in the central panel, the coronation of the Virg; in the right panel, the birth of the Virgin. These scenes are part of a a series of six scenes, the other three shown in SC.MSS.088.VENI.0139.

In the first panel, Mary is presented by her mother Anna to the Priest in the temple, who holds out his hands to receive her. Joachim stands behind Anna, and other witnesses stand behind him. Behind the Priest and additional witnesses is the apse with a gothic style altarpiece. In the central scene is the coronation of the Virgin. Here, on a large throne in a flowering meadow, sits God the Father, Mary, and Christ in a triangular composition. Christ crowns Mary queen of Heaven, and God the Father places his hands on each of their shoulders. As Christ reaches out to crown Mary, the dove of the Holy Spirit hovers above his hand. He holds a scepter. Mary bows her head in piety. God the Father wears a mantle adorned with stars. Surrounding the ornate throne are eleven angels, three kneeling at the base of the throne and eight hovering around the upper sides of the scene. In the right panel is the birth of the Virgin. Here, Anna, who sits up in bed, is presented with the baby Mary. Joachim stands at the foot of the bed, and talks with two women. The scene is set in a domestic interior space., 1440-1450

Three Scenes from the Life of Mary, This image shows three scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary: in the left panel, the marriage of the Virg; in the central panel, the adoration of the Magi; in the right panel, the presentation of the Christ Child in the temple. These scenes are part of a a series of six scenes, the other three shown in SC.MSS.088.VENI.0138.

In the first panel, Mary is presented by her mother to Joseph, who holds a blooming branch with the dove of the Holy Spirit perched atop it. There are other men holding or breaking sticks - referring to the "Golden Legend". The Priest joins the hands of Mary and Joseph. The scene is set in front of the temple. In the central scene is the Adoration of the Magi. Here, just outside of the stable, Mary holds the Christ Child in her lap while Joseph stands beside her. The Magi and their entourage are lined up, approaching Christ with gifts, and the Magi at the front kneels to kiss Christ's foot. In the stable are donkeys, and in the distant countryside are shepherds with their flocks receiving the message of Christ's birth from a hovering angel. In the right panel is the presentation of the Christ Child in the temple. Here, in the center of the panel, Mary and the priest together hold the Christ Child as He is passed from the one to the other. Beside Mary, Joseph stands, holding two doves in his arms. There are also other witnesses present, surrounding the scene and surrounded by walls of the temple. In the lower front of the scene is a kneeling donor nun., 1440-1450

Scenes from the Passion of Christ, This work includes a central panel, with three panels to either side in two tiers. The scenes depicted in these panels show the Passion of Christ.

In the central panel is the crucifixion scene, with Christ on the cross and the Virgin Mary (standing) to the right. Angels hover in the air in a circle around Christ, catching his flowing blood in small chalices they hold.

In the upper tier, the far left panel shows the Last Supper, the next panel shows Jesus washing the apostles' feet. In the next panel is the Communion of the Apostles. To the right of the central panel in the upper tier (L-R) is the Prayer in Gethsemane, the betrayal of Christ by Judas and Christ's arrest, and Christ before Caiaphas.

In the lower tier, from L-R, are Christ before Pilate, Christ nailed to the cross, the Deposition, the Resurrection, and the Ascension.

In the spandrels are saints and prophets., 1440-1450

Crucifixion, This image shows the central panel of an altarpiece depicting scenes of Christ's Passion. In this central panel is the scene of Christ's crucifixion. Christ is nailed to the cross, and angels surrounding Him catch his blood in chalices. St. John stands to the right of the cross, the Virgin Mary stands to the left of the cross, and Mary Magdalene kneels at the base of the cross. An angel kneels, facing her, and catches the blood from Christ's feet in a chalice. Beneath them, in the foreground, is a lamb lying on the ground. Christ wears the crown of thorns. Above Him, on top of the cross, is a nest with a bird feeding three baby birds, possibly symbolic of the nourishment of Christ's life-giving sacrifice. Behind the scene, which is set in a rocky landscape with little vegetation, are city walls., 1435-1450

Scenes from the Passion of Christ, This image shows the left panels of an altarpiece depicting scenes of Christ's Passion. In the (top row, L-R) first scene, Jesus sits with his apostles at the Last Supper. Judas is identified in the foreground of the scene with his coin purse. John is identified on the right side of Jesus as he appears to rest on the arm of Jesus. In the next scene to the right, Jesus is seen washing the feet of the apostles. In the third scene (L-R) of the top row, is the Communion of the Apostles. Here, the apostles kneel and attend Jesus at the table, except Judas, who turns away and looks down. In the lower tier, the leftmost scene depicts Christ before Pontius Pilate. Here, Christ, with his hands bound, faces Pilate, who washes his hands with a pitcher and basin provided by an attendant. In the middle scene of the second tier, Christ carries the cross on the way to Calvary. Behind him is Veronica, who holds a veil which bears the likeness of Christ's face, after the cloth was used to wipe his face. Beside Veronica is the Virgin Mary, and behind Christ are guards and a slave, the slave carrying a ladder and the guards carrying weapons, one guard holding a rope whose other end is around Christ's neck. One guard carries a banner with SPQR on it. In the third scene of the lower tier is the nailing of Christ to the cross. Here, Christ lays on the cross while he is nailed down to it. Roman soldiers surround him, holding spears and a shield and a banner with SPQR. Also, a man points to Christ. In the spandrels are Ss. Jerome, John the Baptist, Peter Martyr, and Dominic and a chalice., 1435-1450

Scenes from the Passion of Christ, This image shows the right side panels of a two-tier altarpiece depicting scenes of Christ's Passion. In the top tier (L-R) is the scene of Christ before Caiaphas. In the lower tier are the depictions of Christ's deposition from the cross, Christ's resurrection, and Christ's ascension. In the scene of the garden of Gethsemane, Christ kneels in prayer beside a rock on which a cup/chalice rests, referring to Luke 22:42. In the foreground and background, huddled apostles sit and weep, rest, and pray. In the second scene is the betrayal of Christ by Judas. Here, a large crowd is gathered, and Judas kisses Jesus on the cheek to identify him to the guards and authorities. In the foreground, an apostle smites a Roman servant (of the high priest). In the background, guards carry weapons and banners and shields (inscribed SPQR). In the last scene of the top tier, Christ stands before Caiaphus, who sits in judgement. In the lower tier, depicted is Christ's deposition from the cross. Christ's body is lowered from the cross, while Mary reaches up to receive him in her arms. In the next scene of the lower tier is Christ's resurrection. Here, Christ stands victorious on top of his tomb, holds a banner, and gives the sign of blessing. Around the tomb, the Roman guards sleep. In the last scene of the lower tier, Christ ascends into Heaven. Here, two angels hover on either side of Christ's feet and hold inscribed scrolls.
