Cuban Travel Diary
Scope and Contents
This notebook contains travel writings from December 23, 1886 to January 18, 1887 by an unidentified writer. The writer [presumably male] traveled in Cuba with a friend named Charlie Starbuck. He mentions visiting a bullfight by Luis Mazzantini, a holiday celebration, a balloon ascension by Captain Infanti, and seeing Sarah Bernhardt, a French actress.
The last half of the notebook is filled with spelling practice, recipes, and brief day notes from the year 1916, in different handwriting than the travel diary. There is a statement of ownership on page 58 of the diary that says, "This book is the property of Mary Margaret Britt," who is likely responsible for the writing in this half of the notebook. On page 53, there is a list of other family members' names, like Thomas L. Britt Barber, Edward V. Britt Barber, and Albert S. Britt Barber.
