Ernest W. Bailey Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection of two file folders contains a copy of the Lexington Progress from 1952 that includes reprints from old letters and writings nearly a century old that were discovered at the old Robert Bailey farm house. The excerpts are Antebellum and Civil War Era. Other newspaper clippings are also included regarding the obituaries of Bailey and Stewart Family of Henderson County, Tennessee.

The physical materials from this collection may be viewed only in the reading room of Vanderbilt’s Special Collections and University Archives. Biographical / Historical
Ernest Wesley Bailey (1887-1968), son of William Merrill Bailey and Mary Ella Byrd Bailey, was born on 1 October 1887 in Henderson County Tennessee. Bailey attended Lexington High School and Sardis Academy. He was a rural mail carrier at Huron for more than 30 years and served as president of the Tennessee Letter Carriers Association in 1934. Bailey died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 12 April 1968.
