Mexican Household Accounting Diary

 Collection
Identifier: MSS.1003

Scope and Contents

This collection contains a personal accounting diary kept for a Mexican household from 1858-1863, covering all ordinary household expenditures - most of which are grocery items. Pages covering accounts for the year 1858 are sewn together separately with black thread and tucked loosely into the volume at the front.

The place of publication was determined from a watermark on a single sheet of paper inserted into the volume, which reads "Secretaría de Estado y del Despacho de Justicia e Instrucción Pública." The name can be traced to the mexican Secretariat of Public Education in 1861.
