Francisco José de Caldas Map Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection contains two maps of Colombia comprised of five and three fragments that were created by Francisco José de Caldas, circa 1802-1807. One map depicts part of Antioquia in three fragments. The other map depicts the Cauca Valley in Colombia in five fragments. Also included in the collection are field notes related to the maps created by Caldas.
These maps were made during one of Caldas's several scientific expeditions, likely during his collaboration with Alexander von Humboldt in preparation for his El estado de la geografia del virreinato con relación a la economía y al comercio (1807).

The physical materials from this collection may be viewed only in the reading room of Vanderbilt’s Special Collections and University Archives.
