This collection contains a letter, dated 12 May 1796, from Pantaleon Gutierrez y Diaz de Quijano, the Mayor of Bogota from 1796-1797, to the Mayor of the town of Choconta regarding judicial action in a criminal case against Manuel Mariño.

Biographical / Historical
Pantaleon Gutierrez y Diaz de Quijano was born in Bogota on February 19, 1756 and died December 8, 1827. He studied law at the Colegial de San Bartolomé beginning in 1770. He was a soldier of the compañia de caballeros corazas de Santa Fé in 1781. He owned the haciendas "La Herrera" and "Aranda y la Serrezuela", both of which were taken in the Reconquista. He married María Francisca Moreno e Isabella on December 23, 1780. He served as Mayor of Bogota from 1797-1798. He served as a Colonel of militas in 1811 and was later named Senator of the Representación National de la Provincia. His son José Gregorio Gutierrez was shot in 1816.
