The physical materials from this collection may be viewed only in the reading room of Vanderbilt’s Special Collections and University Archives. Biographical / Historical
Paul Simpson was a Nashville businessman who founded the Vanderbilt Television News Archive in 1968 after discovering major networks did not preserve their nightly news broadcasts. Driven by concerns about media bias, he partnered with Vanderbilt University librarian, Frank Grisham, to record and archive ABC, NBC, and CBS news programs. Simpson was the first financial backer and chief fundraiser of the Television News Archive. Simpson wrote a book about his experiences titled, “Network Television News: Conviction, Controversy, and a Point of View” published in 1995.
