Biographical / Historical
The Quinq Club, was created in 1947 by three Vanderbilt Alumni- Dr. Billy H. Witt (1887), Mr. James A. Robins (1892), and Mr. W.D. Strayhorn (1892). They all graduated from Vanderbilt, and realized that meeting together during commencement activities would be a congenial way to celebrate the passage of 50 years since their own graduations. They chose the Latin word "Quinq" from quinquaginta meaning fiftieth which is reflected in their motto, "The older it is, the better it is." ("Bonum quo antiquius, eo melius").
The Quinqs play a crucial role in conserving the university's history through the alumni associations. They participate in planning Vanderbilt reunions in addition to other events centered around maintaining the traditions of the university.
Quinq News is an occasional publication from Vanderbilt University Alumni and Development. Its purpose is to communicate news and information about activities of Quinqs.
