Biographical / Historical
John F. McRae was born on November 6, 1845 in Mississippi to Hugh McRae and Catherine McDonald. He married Susue Campbell on May 31, 1881 in Lafayette Co., Mississippi. He owned a store and farm in Orion, Mississippi near Byhalia. He had at least one son named Ronald Malcolm McRae, Sr. who resided in Memphis, TN. John McRae died March 21, 1902 and is buried in Byhalia.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
This collection was donated by Robert Malcolm McRae, Jr., grandson of John F. McRae. Robert M. McRae, Jr. graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1943 and later served as Federal Judge on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee.
