The Tomás C. de Mosquera Collection, 1749-1975, consist of correspondence, ephemera, government documents, personal papers, and other materials related to Colombian president Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera, 1798-1878.

Biographical / Historical
Tomás Cipriano Ignacio Maria de Mosquera y Figueroa Arboleda Salazar, Prieto de Tovar, Vergara, Silva, Hurtado de Mendoza, Urrutia y Guzmán (1798-1878) was was born in Popayán on September 26, 1798, to José María de Mosquera-Figueroa y Arboleda and María Manuela de Arboleda y Arrachea. As a young soldier, Mosquera served under Simón Bolívar during the independence movement. He served as leader of the Republic of New Granada from 1845 to 1849, and he then led the successful liberal forces during the Colombian Civil War of 1860–1862. Mosquera served as president of the newly named United States of Colombia from 1861 to 1862, 1862 to 1864, and 1866 to 1867. He died on October 7, 1878, at his farm in Puracé.

A letter was added to this collection in 2022 that was purchased for $1250 and originally cataloged as MSS.1040. That manuscript number has since been reassigned, and the letter was integrated into this collection. Other letters have been added that originally came from the J. Léon Helguera Collection.
