Scope and Contents

Vanderbilt photo identifier: SC.MSS.088.SCUL.0394; Public Notes: The Orti San Michaelis or Orsanmichele was built in the 14th century to replace Florence's crumbling market infrastructure, the building was to house a market and a meeting place for the various guilds, who were each given a niche outside the building. Donatello or Filippo Brunelleschi produced the statue of Saint Peter under the commission of the Guild of Butchers.
