Saint Jerome, This depiction of Saint Jerome incorporates many of the traditional attributes. There is a lion at his right arm, what looks to be a stone in his right hand, a crucifix in his left, and a skull on the table before him. He is shown in the crimson robes of a cardinal (since many of his responsibilities were those that would later be under the cardinals) and a crimson hat held above his head. An open book, closed book with paper inside, and quill in ink suggest his translation of the Bible into Latin. The artist's portrait of the saint shows him seemingly in the midst of his work, but gazing up to heaven for respite., 1636
