Detail from the Portrait of Giovanni de' Medici as a Baby (Giovanni di Cosimo I), The portrait shows a smiling baby from the wait up; this image focuses only on the area from the baby's chest and up to the top of his head. This emphasizes the realistic quality of the eyes and extra weight on the baby's neck. The child's gaze is directed toward the viewer, and his body is only slightly turned toward the viewer's left. He wears a bright red frock with a gold embroidered collar, red pants, and wears a necklace around his neck with a shaped pendant on it. He holds a bird in his right hand. The dark background emphasizes the child and allows him to be the central focus. The records SC.MSS.088.FLOR.10739 and .10740 are from different sources, but are identical images of the same work; this is a detail from another different source, but of the same image. This is a basic record created to enable public access to scanned images. Full research on this image is pending., c.1545
