Cosimo I de' Medici (1519-1574), This portrait is one of the numerous portraits of Cosimo de' Medici that came from Bronzino's workshop. This work models the copied format. The sitter's body is positioned toward the viewer's right, but his face is turned slightly toward the viewer's left, where his gaze points. His face is still young with some definition of wrinkles, and he has a goatee. He wears a silver breastplate with red trim ribbons at the collar and on the chestpieces. Only his right arm is visible and it rests atop the suit of armor's helmet. This work has added tapestry detail in the background. The wallpaper has a design, most likely a symbol of the Medici family; the curtain hanging above him has an ornate tassle hanging beside his head, and below his helmet is an expensive fabric. This is a basic record created to enable public access to scanned images. Full research on this image is pending., 1540-1550
