Portrait of a Man Holding a Statuette, The portrait shows a half-length sitter from the waist up. He stands tall with his chest pointed slightly to the viewer's left, but his face turned forward. He wears a black garment with a white collar and gold embroidery. He holds both hands in front of him in order to hold a statuette; his left hand prominently displays a gold ring on his left pinky finger. The statuette may be Venus of Urbino, a repeated motif of the goddess in which she covers herself after being interrupted during a bath, though often in a sexual and revealing manner. He is shown in an interior space, with a dark curtain behind him on the viewer's right. In this photograph, the frame encloses the picture and a plaque at the bottom gives information on the artist, his dates, and the work itself. This is a basic record created to enable public access to scanned images. Full research on this image is pending., c.1545
