The Madonna and Child with Saint John the Baptist and Saint Elizabeth, The painting shows the Madonna and Child with Mary's cousin Saint Elizabeth and her son Saint John the Baptist. Mary the Mother of Christ and the child gaze at one another as the nude child sits close to her face; she supports him with her right arm and holds a book in her hand.. He rests a garland on his head with his right hand and holds out a wooden crucifix in his left. This is traditionally associated with Saint John the Baptist, who is held against Mary's waist with her left hand. This child looks up at Jesus and offers him berries with his right hand from a bowl in his left. The artist shows a trace of the camel skin coat that the saint wears as an adult. Behind Mary's left shoulder Saint Elizabeth loos down at her son John. She wears a white veil, while Mary's is thin and translucent. Mary's garment is also bright with a lighter shoulder cloth and a blue cloak. The background shows a non distinct landscape setting. This record is identical to SC.MSS.088.FLOR.10703, though the photographic source is different. This is a basic record created to enable public access to scanned images.
