While Francis was elated by the appearance and pondering the meaning of his vision, he immediately felt the wounds of Christ upon his skin, nails to his hands, feet, and a wound at his side. Here, the saint appears outside a city, kneeling in his Franciscan robes, in the process of receiving the stigmata. In the sky a Christ-like crucified angel appears in sky.
