Stigmatization of Saint Francis of Assisi, Painting depicts the stigma of Saint Francis of Assisi, in which after spending forty days fasting in the desert, a six-winged seraph appears in the sky attached to a cross. While Francis was elated by the appearance and pondering the meaning of his vision, he immediately felt the wounds of Christ upon his skin, nails to his hands, feet, and a wound at his side. Here, the saint appears outside a city, kneeling in his Franciscan robes, in the process of receiving the stigmata. In the sky a Christ-like crucified angel appears in sky. Besides Francis, a smaller man is also depicted kneeling., 1410
