The Annunciation to the Virgin, This is painting depicts the angel Gabriel appearing to the Virgin Mary to inform her that she will bear the son of God. She is shown kneeling at her prie-dieu, with her hand holding her place in the book of hours. Presumably, the angel has interrupted Mary at a moment of devout piety. The angel holds a banner that reads a line from the Angelicus prayer, confirming Mary's holiness., 1490

The Flagellation of Christ, This is a depiction of the flagellation of Christ. He is bound to a column and whipped by three grotesque men dressed in contemporary German clothing. A fourth man kneels in the foreground and is binding branches together to form another whip. In the background, several men, presumably Pharisees, watch the scene. The scene is set in a typically Gothic interior and the figures physically dominate the scene., 1490
