Breughel signed his name with an 'h' until 1559, which is odd since the 'h' isn't present in this work yet it is dated 1554. According to the notes on our photograph, this piece was sold at Sotheby's on 11-3-64.

Saint Hubert's Vision, This painting depicts the conversion of St. Hubert. In the center of the composition stands a large buck. To the right, St. Hubert kneels awestruck beside his horse, his hunting dogs resting around him. As the story goes, St. Hubert encountered the buck on a hunting trip and saw a cross appear between the buck's antler's just before he tried to kill him. Like in the story of St. Eustace, this lead to the saint's conversion., 1617-1620

Sight and Smell, In this painting, two allegorical figures Sight (on the left) and Smell (on the right) are seated at a table. Both figures allude to the sense they embody, as Smell smells of the flowers the putti nearest her holds and Sight gazes at herself in a mirror held by another putti. Other allusions to smell include the civet cat which represents a foul odor and the dog which represents a keen sense of smell. Allusions to sight are symbolized in the works of art on the walls, such as The Healing of the Blind, and are evident in the presence of the magnifying glass and telescope., c.1620

The pendant to this piece is a painting of Hearing, Taste, and Touch that was also housed in the Alcazar Palace in 1623.
