These panels make up the lower half of a large altarpiece. The other panels (not photographed) can be found at the Musee du Louvre in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. A Crucifixion scene attached to this altarpiece can also be found at the Palazzo Bianco in Genoa.

The museum states that there are over sixty different versions of this composition. This painting was sold at Sotheby's London at an unknown date.
