Loeser collection in Florence from 1870 until it was inherited by his daughter at an unknown date. In 1954, the painting was bought by Count Alessandro Contini-Bonacossi in Florence who sold the piece in the same year to Samuel H. Kress. It was then given as a gift to the National Gallery in 1961.
