This collection contains manuscript material related to the larger George Clulow-United States Playing Card Company Gaming Collection of rare books on gaming, cards, and gaming history. One such manuscript is a collection of sermons dated circa 1450-circa 1500 on the subject of gaming that includes the first written reference to tarot cards.

Scope and Contents The William McKendree Papers are comprised of .84 linear feet of correspondence, sermons and collected materials of Bishop McKendree. Also contained within these papers is his personal diary as well as a church business journal and several of William McKendree’s sermons. Aside from McKendree’s related papers there are a few Methodist relics such as a classbook of the year 1796, a partial diary of Hester Ann Rogers and outlines of sermons by Samuel Bradburn. Abstract This collection contains 163 of Bishop McTyeire’s early sermons from 1844-1850. Most of the sermons were preached to the Methodist congregations to which McTyeire was minister; a few were preached to other groups such as African Americans and sailors; one was preached on board a riverboat. The Kelly Miller Smith Collection complements the Divinity School's Kelly Miller Smith Institute on the Black Church. This collection contains primary materials related to one of the most significant periods in black American history, ca. 1945-1984. Both contemporary and future scholars will view the collection as a valuable resource for inquiring into the thought and practice of Kelly Miller Smith, who was a widely esteemed black leader.
