Abstract

The Cornelius Vanderbilt IV Papers, 1897-1974, include correspondence, manuscripts of writings, lecture materials, reviews of his books and film, personal papers, legal and business documents, photographs, newspaper clippings, and scrapbooks of his various writing and lecture projects. The forty-five boxes of the collection cover approximately 26.03 linear feet.

Scope and Contents The Harold Stirling Vanderbilt Collection consists of material transferred to Vanderbilt University from the Manalapan, Florida, estate after the death of Vanderbilt's widow, Gertrude Conaway Vanderbilt. The collection spans the years from approximately 1910 to 1978. It contains linear feet of material, largely comprised of correspondence and scrapbooks on contract bridge, yacht racing, and Vanderbilt University.
