Francis Craig Collection

Abstract

The Francis Craig Collection contains material ranging in date from 1919 to 1994 and makes up 2.51 linear feet. The papers include personal and biographical information, correspondence, memorabilia, and photographs. The major portion of the collection, however, dates from the 1930’s and 1940’s and consists of clippings, sheet music, and recordings.

Gowthorpe, Montague Collection

Abstract

The Montague F. Gowthorpe Opera Collection was created by Montague F. Gowthorpe during his time as the chairman of the Detroit Symphony and one of the original vice-presidents at Paramount Pictures. The collection, consisting of 200 reel-to-reel tapes recorded from radio broadcasts, along with 48 libretto books to accompany the recordings, reflects his lifetime passion for opera.

Grand Ole Opry Collection

Abstract

This collection, donated in 1967 by Jesse Wills, is composed of a wide variety of items of historical and musical interest, including songbooks, correspondence, photographs, and other unique items. As president of National Life and Accident Insurance Company, the parent company of WSM, Inc. and the Grand Ole Opry, Wills had access to a wide variety of material associated with country music in general and the Grand Ole Opry in particular.

WSM Radio and Television Collection

The WSM Radio & TV collection is composed of correspondence, photographs, scripts of radio programs, and promotional material. It is stored in thirteen manuscript boxes, eight of which contain scripts of radio programs. Dates of the collection range from 1928 to 1966 with a large portion of the material dated in the 1940s.
