1845 Diary of a Southern Educator
This collection contains a daily, handwritten diary of a Southern educator from 1845. The author is unidentified, but taught in Nashville and later, during the inaugural year of the Natchez Institute, the first public school in Mississippi.
1897 Centennial Exposition Collection
This collection contains a promotional pamphlet and 18 photographs from the 1897 Tennessee Centennial and International Exposition that opened May 1, 1897 and closed October 31, 1897 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Alf Adams Papers
This collection contains newspaper clippings related to WWI and the 1915-1919 Vanderbilt football teams that Alfred Adams played for. Also included are telegrams and miscellaneous materials related to Alf Adams dating from 1917-1923.

The J. Louis Adams Collection, 1946-1947, consists of notes taken during law classes at Vanderbilt University by James Louis Adams, Jr., 1905-1964
"The Advocates" Collection
The Advocates Collection, 1969-1975, consists of program schedules, discussion topics, transcripts, photographs, and other documents related to the Advocates television debate program.
Agrarian Reunion Collection
This collection of 3 Hollinger boxes (1.26 linear feet) contains reel to reel audio tapes and transcripts (original and photocopies) of the proceedings of the Agrarian Reunion at the Southern Literary Festival which took place at the University of Dallas in Texas on April 19, 20, 21 1968. Participants in the Reunion were Agrarians Andrew Lytle, John Crowe Ransom, Allen Tate, and Robert Penn Warren.

Honey Alexander Papers
This collection contains the papers of Honey Alexander, wife of Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee. The majority of this collection documents her time serving as First Lady of Tennessee from 1979-1987.
Lamar Alexander Papers
This collection contains the papers of former Governor of Tennessee, Secretary of Education, and U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander. Currently, only the material predating Alexander's tenure as Senator (pre-2002) is processed for research use. Please contact Special Collections with access inquiries related to Senate materials.

Jack Allen Collection
The Jack Allen Collection is an accumulation of Allen’s productive life as an educator at George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, Tennessee. The collection comprises five linear feet relating to Jack Allen’s career and writings.
Ward Sykes Allen Family Papers
This collection has two series. Series I contains correspondence written to Ward Allen from his family and friends during his college years. The correspondence is in the form of letters, postal cards, and greeting cards. Series II relates to Dr. James H. Joyner of Sumner County, Tennessee. It contains information on property ownership (tax receipts, insurance policies, mortgage), stock dividend receipts, and lists of medical debts owed to Dr. Joyner for his services.
Alpha Omicron Pi Collection
This collection contains materials relating to the Alpha Omicron Pi’s Nu Omicron chapter at Vanderbilt University. There are programs, newspaper clippings, and other memorabilia arranged by decade from the 1920s through the 1950s. Also included are photographs from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s.

Joseph Anderson Papers
This collection contains 10 letters dated 1815-1832 signed by Joseph Anderson, U.S. Senator from Tennessee from 1797-1815 and Comptroller of the U.S. Treasury from 1815-1836.
André LeRoy Davis Hip Hop Collection
The André LeRoy Davis Hip Hop Collection features eight fine art prints featuring illustrations from the artist. Six of the illustrations were published in the Source between 1994 and 2003 in Davis’ editorial column “The Last Word.” The illustrations address issues of politics, culture, and justice through the lens of hip hop and show why Davis is considered the father of hip hop comics.

This site contains collection guides, or finding aids, to the archival collections held by Vanderbilt University Special Collections and University Archives, the History of Medicine Collection, and the Scarritt Bennett Center. Finding aids describe the context, arrangement, and structure of archival materials, allowing users to identify and request materials relevant to their research.
Requesting Materials
Each finding aid contains a link to request materials from the collections. Collections can also be requested by emailing the repository directly through the library website. Each repository has its own location, hours, and contact information. Please consult the repository with questions about using the materials. Collections are non-circulating and must be used in the repository’s reading room. In many cases, the collections are stored off-site and require advance notice for retrieval.
