Alfred Leland Crabb/William Rodney Cline Collection

Abstract

This collection consists primarily of the correspondence from 1933-1979 between Alfred Leland Crabb and William Rodney Cline, his former doctoral student at George Peabody College for Teachers. Found within this collection are letters from Mildred Cline to Bertha Crabb and a few miscellaneous letters from the Crabbs and Clines to others. Rodney Cline’s autobiography and his family history are a part of the collection as well as some Cline family photos and mementoes.

This collection contains Alfred Leland Crabb’s works and correspondences from 1910 to 1970. The first part covers correspondences with faculty, friends and publishing companies from 1925 to 1970. Crabb mainly worked with the Bobbs-Merrill Publishing Company and the Johnson Publishing Company.

The Francis Craig Collection contains material ranging in date from 1919 to 1994 and makes up 2.51 linear feet. The papers include personal and biographical information, correspondence, memorabilia, and photographs. The major portion of the collection, however, dates from the 1930’s and 1940’s and consists of clippings, sheet music, and recordings.

Frances M. Crater Papers

Scope and Content Note Most of these papers are records of Fran Crater’s work with the women’s movement in the first half of the 1970’s when the growth of the National Organization for Women (NOW) was countrywide, and when the work for the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment was a major movement throughout the United States. Cuban Sale of Slaves Manuscript

Abstract A manuscript "outlining the sale of several slaves between Brooks and Company and Marcelina Barthe [Lescaille]. The document records the name, approximate age, and price of each slave, including a young woman and her daughter, Clara, age four. Most of the slaves are referred to as "mulata" or "criolla" indicating that they are of mixed blood. The contract ends with an agreement that the sellers are no longer liable for the slaves, indicating that any future issues or illnesses are now the...

Cuban Slave Documents

Abstract

A collection of several documents spanning six leaves that shows the persistent nature of slavery in Cuba during the later half of the 19th century. Though Cuba ended its participation in the slave trade in 1867, it was not until 1886 that slavery was finally abolished by royal decree.

Cuban Travel Diary

Abstract

This diary contains travel writings from December 23, 1886 and January 18, 1887. The unidentified writer was traveling in Cuba with a friend named Charlie Starbuck. He mentions visiting a bullfight by Luis Massantini, a holiday celebration, a balloon ascension by Captain Infanti, and seeing Sarah Bernhardt. The last half of the notebook is filled with irrelevant writings (recipes, notes, etc.).
