This collection contains the papers of Brainard Bartwell Cheney and Frances Neel Cheney. Major topics of interest include multiple versions of Brainard Cheney’s novels, the Pine Barrens and Rivers of Southeastern Georgia, materials relating to the Cheney’s friendships with many of the Fugitive/Agrarian writers, Brainard Cheney’s interest in Catholicism, Tennessee Politics in the late 1940’s and 1950’s, race relations and civil rights, Library Science and reference services.
James C. Chowning Papers
This collection contains 21 letters, mostly written by James C. Chowning to his mother and sisters, during the Civil War and afterwards. They describe his training with the Tennessee Volunteers in the Confederate Army, and military operations of those troops.
Silas Clack Manuscript
This collection contains a fictional manuscript narrative from 1885 detailing the history of Silas Clack, a common Federal soldier in the Civil War, written and illustrated by Phillip M. Radford of the 5th Tennessee Cavalry, Co. A, and 1st Alabama Vidette Cavalry, Co. F.
