Sidney Boutwell Collection
The Sidney Boutwell Collection is contained within a single, flat box with the vast majority of it being photographs. Also in the collection is a more detailed biography, fraternity certificates, newspaper clippings, and a scrapbook.
Branham and Hughes Military Academy Collection
This collection contains a metal pin and 5 yearbooks dated 1907-1910 from the Branham and Hughes Military Academy. The yearbooks are titled "Quips and Chips".
Bernard R. Breyer and Donald Davidson Correspondence Collection
The collection contains four letters, one typed and three handwritten, dated from 1945 to 1946. Two of the letters discuss military life in World War I and World War II. Also included is a discussion regarding the Vanderbilt University athletic program and the upcoming football season.
Marion H. Briggs Collection
This .21 linear feet collection of 28 items contains 18 pieces of correspondence written to family members primarily during World War I pertaining to army life and health. The collection also contains a booklet, map, pamphlet, and roster from the late 19th century. The collection is arranged in 14 file folders.
Betty Cooper Brinkley Collection
This collection contains schedules, exams, and notes for an English 101 class at Vanderbilt in 1939.
Lee H. Bristol, Jr. Collection
This collection contains three pieces of sheet music written by Lee Hastings Bristol, Jr. while he was stationed at Vanderbilt in 1944.
George M. Britton Collection
This collection is comprised of documents related to the history of Texas and Tennessee from 1817-1865. It comprises four parts: documents of the Republic of Texas, 1837-1845; the early documents of Tennessee, 1817-1862; Senate and House broadsides from 1835-1848; Scrapbooks relative to the American Civil War, 1860-1865.
James L. Britton III Collection
This collection contains 13 rare 19th Century imprints relating to the State of Tennessee.
James F. Broder Papers
This collection contains 37 typed letters signed by James F. Broder to his wife, Margie, while serving in Vietnam from 1965-1966. Broder served with the U.S. Embassy as a Police Advisor in the Counter Insurgency Directorate of the Vietnamese National Police, having previously worked with the FBI. His mission was to assist in putting together police forces in outer villages.
Cleanth Brooks Papers
This small collection (.21 linear feet ) includes correspondence between Cleanth Brooks and a number of Vanderbilt University faculty about the Fugitive Poets Reunion at Vanderbilt in 1956, the Literary Symposia in 1958 and 1964, and other literary and academic matters. There are also newspaper clippings and articles and several photographs taken by Merrill Moore at the 1956 Fugitive Poets Reunion at Vanderbilt.
Stewart Brooks Collection
This .21 linear feet collection contains three law docket books that list his clients, the types of legal matters he handled for them, and the costs for services.
Amy Frances Brown Papers
The Amy Frances Brown Papers contain various documents relating to her professional career in Nursing at Vanderbilt for the years 1951-1970.
Bettye A. Brown Collection
This collection is composed of .5 Hollinger box with ten folders inside. More specifically there is incoming correspondence to Brown, a press release and photo of Richard M. “Pek” Gunn, the Fulbright program from 1956 to 1957, a report of the Fulbright program, and the music program at Peabody College. Productions tied to Brown include the play “The Beautiful People,” sheet music to “My Homeland, Tennessee,” and various other performances. Finally, there are writings by Brown.

The contents within this collection are three folders of Vanderbilt brochures, documents and correspondence from Brown’s time as a student.
Charles Faulkner Bryan Collection
This collection contains materials relating to Charles Faulkner Bryan and it includes photocopies of correspondence between Bryan and Donald Davidson, with whom he collaborated on the musical Singin’ Billy. Also in this collection is sheet music of pieces by Bryan and includes the Songs for Children Series, the Bell Witch Secular Folk Cantata, Tennessee Folk Songs and other music by Bryan.

This site contains collection guides, or finding aids, to the archival collections held by Vanderbilt University Special Collections and University Archives, the History of Medicine Collection, and the Scarritt Bennett Center. Finding aids describe the context, arrangement, and structure of archival materials, allowing users to identify and request materials relevant to their research.
Requesting Materials
Each finding aid contains a link to request materials from the collections. Collections can also be requested by emailing the repository directly through the library website. Each repository has its own location, hours, and contact information. Please consult the repository with questions about using the materials. Collections are non-circulating and must be used in the repository’s reading room. In many cases, the collections are stored off-site and require advance notice for retrieval.
