Abstract

This collection contains 37 typed letters signed by James F. Broder to his wife, Margie, while serving in Vietnam from 1965-1966. Broder served with the U.S. Embassy as a Police Advisor in the Counter Insurgency Directorate of the Vietnamese National Police, having previously worked with the FBI. His mission was to assist in putting together police forces in outer villages.

This small collection (.21 linear feet ) includes correspondence between Cleanth Brooks and a number of Vanderbilt University faculty about the Fugitive Poets Reunion at Vanderbilt in 1956, the Literary Symposia in 1958 and 1964, and other literary and academic matters. There are also newspaper clippings and articles and several photographs taken by Merrill Moore at the 1956 Fugitive Poets Reunion at Vanderbilt.

This collection is composed of .5 Hollinger box with ten folders inside. More specifically there is incoming correspondence to Brown, a press release and photo of Richard M. “Pek” Gunn, the Fulbright program from 1956 to 1957, a report of the Fulbright program, and the music program at Peabody College. Productions tied to Brown include the play “The Beautiful People,” sheet music to “My Homeland, Tennessee,” and various other performances. Finally, there are writings by Brown.

Jason Brown Collection

Scope and Contents The collection of works came first from a call to participate in a Mail Art project “Reinvention.” The curator, Jason Brown, asked for works on a global and local scale with the theme of “Reinvention.” Brown’s project outline stated that his blog would display the received mail art, which the works would eventually go on exhibition in Nashville, Tennessee, and it gave no inhibitions.
