Lisa Aron Collection
This 1.04 linear foot collection contains one original, handwritten, family history about World War II, Nazi Germany, Auschwitz Concentration Camp, and the Aftermath of the War.
Santiago Arroyo Manuscript
An account book belonging to Santiago Arroyo, of Popayán, Colombia. Entries begin on Apr. 28, 1808, and continue sporadically until Sept. 12, 1843. The book profiles his (and his spouse's) business interests, their hacienda Guazavara, and their gold mines, and includes various personal outlays to members of his extended family, which included most of the social and political ruling class of southern Colombia, and business associates.
Emma L. Ashford Papers
The Emma L. Ashford collection is comprised mostly of music composed by Mrs. Ashford, as well as by others. Mrs. Ashford’s music is in both manuscript and printed form. Most of her works contained in this collection pertain to Vanderbilt University. All the printed works of other composers in the collection relate to Vanderbilt.
Assessment of the Value of a Plantation
This collection consists of a two-page draft document assessing the value of a plantation in Mayan County, Alabama from circa 1855.
Athena Book Club Collection
This collection contains cassette tapes of Athena Book Club programs from the 1990s. Speakers are recorded talking about various literary subjects and figures. The Athena Book Club was based in Nashville.
Anita Avery Girl Detectives Collection
The Anita Avery Girl Detectives Collection contains correspondence, ephemera, memorabilia, and audiovisual material related to juvenile mystery series published throughout the mid-20th century. The material in this collection complements a collection of rare books by the same name that was donated by Anita Avery.
Roy Crowdy Avery Collection
This .21 linear feet collection contains four reel-to-reel tapes, a transcript of the tapes, transcript from a diary kept by Roy Crowdy Avery during World War I, newspaper clippings, and a manuscript titled, “The Background on the Discovery of Histoplasmosis”.
Ernest W. Bailey Collection
This collection of two file folders contains a copy of the Lexington Progress from 1952 that includes reprints from old letters and writings nearly a century old that were discovered at the old Robert Bailey farm house. The excerpts are Antebellum and Civil War Era. Other newspaper clippings are also included regarding the obituaries of Bailey and Stewart Family of Henderson County, Tennessee.
Alice Baldwin Collection
Alice Baldwin was a professor of history and administrator at the Woman’s College of Duke University. The collection comprises popular vocal sheet music originating from the early 20th century.
Robert A. Baldwin Collection
The collection reflects Robert A. Baldwin’s career at Vanderbilt University as a Professor of Theatre. It consists of designs of stage scenery and costume designs from various play productions created over a 30-year period.
Edward Emerson Barnard Papers
This collection contains the papers of astronomer and professor Edward Emerson Barnard (1857-1923). Barnard was a student and instructor at Vanderbilt University (1883-1887) and Professor of Practical Astronomy at the University of Chicago (1895-1923).

This site contains collection guides, or finding aids, to the archival collections held by Vanderbilt University Special Collections and University Archives, the History of Medicine Collection, and the Scarritt Bennett Center. Finding aids describe the context, arrangement, and structure of archival materials, allowing users to identify and request materials relevant to their research.
Requesting Materials
Each finding aid contains a link to request materials from the collections. Collections can also be requested by emailing the repository directly through the library website. Each repository has its own location, hours, and contact information. Please consult the repository with questions about using the materials. Collections are non-circulating and must be used in the repository’s reading room. In many cases, the collections are stored off-site and require advance notice for retrieval.
