Biographical / Historical
Orin Moe, Jr., was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, grew up in Pacific Palisades, California. He taught music history at Fresno State University, Georgia State University, Vanderbilt University, and Fisk University, specializing in Black composers of the 20th century. In the late 1970s-early 1980s, Moe embarked on a study of the work of American Elliott Carter, which included correspondence with said composer. This work eventually led to an article in College Music Symposium (v. 22, no. 1 (Spring 1982), pp. 7-31).
This small collection consists of Moe's correspondence with Carter.
