Historical or Biographical Note
Alyce Evelyn Young served 23 years as the operating room supervisor at Vanderbilt University Medical Centers operating room. A native of Maryland, she served as a nurse in WWII for the 135th General Hospital based near Bristol, England. After the war, she came to Nashville and worked at St. Thomas Hospital as a supervisor of obstetrics for six years before coming to Vanderbilt in 1952. She was promoted to operating room supervisor in 1957. After retirement in 1980, she returned to Maryland where she died on June 16, 1988 in Darlington.
