Albert Weinstein Biographical File

Dr. Albert Weinstein was a beloved member of the Clinical Faculty at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine where he served for over 25 years He was known for his astute abilities as a clinician and effective teaching ability. He was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky July 14, 1905, the son of Samuel Joseph Weinstein and Susie Goff Weinstein. He received his primary education at the public schools in Middlesboro, and earned his B.A. from Vanderbilt in 1926 and his M.D. in 1929 where he was recipient of the Founders Medal in Medicine. He served his internship at Vanderbilt in 1929 and then went to Johns Hopkins in 1930 for his residency training as the Archbold Fellow in Medicine. He returned to Vanderbilt in 1933 as a chief resident. Two years later he went into private practice, and was attending physician at several area hospitals. He served as director of the Vanderbilt Diabetes Clinic, and was associate editor of the Journal of the Tennessee State Medical Association. A member of numerous professional associations, he published over 40 scientific articles on a number of subjects including diabetes, cardiology, and hypertension. He died of cancer October 1, 1963. A student award, as well as a lectureship bearing his name were established at Vanderbilt by friends, colleagues and patients who wished to perpetuate his memory.
