Historical or Biographical Note
Dr. William Brown Wadlington, longtime and respected Nashville pediatrician, was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. He attended Vanderbilt University as an undergraduate and received both his B.A. and M.D. degrees from Vanderbilt. After receiving his medical degree in 1952, he completed a medical residency at St. Louis Childrens Hospital in 1955 and returned to Nashville to enter private practice and serve as chief of pediatrics at Baptist Hospital until 1960. He was also chief of the St. Thomas Hospital Nursery from 1956 until 1960. Civic and community minded, Dr. Wadlington has been active with the YMCA serving in 1985 as president and governing Nashvilles seven area facilities. He also helped establish the Health Hall at the Cumberland Science Museum in Nashville. Along with his family, he served as a medical missionary to Argentina and Honduras. A long time Vanderbilt supporter he has served as president of the Medical Alumni association in 1985, and has generously supported various programs in the medical center including the Amos Christie Pediatric Summer Scholars Program. He has been a longtime member of the clinical faculty beginning as an instructor in 1955, and presently serves as a clinical professor.
