Historical or Biographical Note
Dr. Joe Mallory Strayhorn, Sr. well known Nashville pediatrician, was born in 1907 in Tennessee. He received both his undergraduate and M.D. degrees from Vanderbilt, receiving his medical degree in 1933. Dr. Strayhorn served in the Army Medical Corps from 1942 to 1946. He served on the staffs of Vanderbilt, Baptist, and Metro General Hospital, and was a clinical professor of pediatrics at Vanderbilt University. He was in private practice and was one of the co founders of the Old Harding Road Pediatrics Association. He died in 1987.
