Historical or Biographical Note
Robert Schrek graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School in 1931. He then stayed with the Vanderbilt pathology faculty for five years, working with Dr. Ernest Goodpasture. Following his five years at VUMS, Schrek spent some time at a Harvard-affiliated hospital in Boston and then taught at Yale University. In 1938, Schrek made the decision to work at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Hines, Illinois, where he served as a staff physician and conducted leukemia-related research until his retirement in 1973. Schrek also taught on the pathology faculty at Northwestern University for several years.
