Historical or Biographical Note
Dr. Eugene Marshall Regen graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School in 1928. His postgraduate training included an internship at Cleveland City Hospital from 1928-1929, an assistant residency in surgery at Vanderbilt University Hospital from 1929-1930, and a residency and fellowship in orthopaedic surgery at Vanderbilt from 1930-1932.
Dr. Regen continued his career in orthopaedics both in private practice and as a faculty member in the Department of Orthopaedics at Vanderbilt Medical School. He became the first clinical professor of orthopaedics at Vanderbilt after rising through the ranks, beginning as an instructor in 1930. Regen was given the honor of professor emeritus and maintained memberships in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society, and the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology. He was certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1935.
