Historical or Biographical Note

W. Faxon Payne received the B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1945 and his M.D. degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1948. He served an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Vanderbilt and later completed his residency in radiology.

Payne joined the medical faculty in 1986 and was named professor of radiology and radiological sciences, emeritus, in 1995.
