Historical or Biographical Note
Alma Gault was a graduate of the College of Wooster in Ohio in 1916. In 1918 she entered the nursing profession by attending the Vassar Training Camp. She then attended the Philadelphia Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Chicago. Leadership positions Miss Gault held before coming to Nashville include serving as associate director of Cook County School of Nursing 1927-1937 and director of Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Baltimore, 1938-1943. In 1944 Miss Gault came to Nashville as Director of Meharry Medical College School of Nursing (1944-1953). She also served as Dean of the Vanderbilt School of Nursing, 1965-1967.
