Historical or Biographical Note

Dr. James Overall graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1927. He served his internship and residency in Pediatrics at Vanderbilt and continued his training at Willard-Parker Hospital and Bellevue Hospital in New York.

Overall was clinical professor of Pediatrics at VUMC from 1940 to 1960. He was named an emeritus professor in 1971, and in 1981, the James C. Overall Chair of Pediatrics was endowed. Dr. Overall was a leader in pediatrics and was known as always wanting to give, to help, and do the right thing for the community. He was one of the founders of Harding Road Pediatrics Associates.
