Historical or Biographical Note

Dr. Doris Orwin was a member of the Vanderbilt Medical School faculty in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for more than 30 years before she retired in 1964. She was a recipient of an American Cancer Society Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her contribution in the field cytology. Orwin was formerly director of the cytology diagnosis laboratory at Vanderbilt, the institute where she received her B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees. Dr. Orwin passed away in 1969.
