Historical or Biographical Note
Elliott Voss Newman, M.D., was a distinquished cardiologist, scientist, medical scholar, and teacher. He came to Vanderbilt from Johns Hopkins in 1952. He was a pioneer in the development of biomedical engineering and the use of applied mathematics and computer sciences for clinical problems. His interest in the application of science to the care of patients resulted in the development at Vanderbilt of one of the country's first Clinical Research Centers.
